Brendan Sagalow
Stand-up specials
A cheerful confession of urban anxiety and absolute cowardice.
Brendan Sagalow performs with the upbeat energy of a guy who just lost a fight and can’t wait to tell you how badly he folded. He paces the stage with a grin, tossing out admissions of physical cowardice and paranoia as if he is bragging. If he describes an altercation on the street, the punchline is inevitably how quickly he surrendered. He frames himself as a man deeply unsuited for the world, telling stories about getting roasted by inmates at Rikers Island or mistaking a stranger’s fall on the sidewalk for a prank.
He operates in the louder, aggressive wing of New York club comedy. As a fixture on broadcasts like The Jim and Sam Show and The Bonfire, and a regular at Skankfest, he frequently plays the cheerful punching bag. He thrives in rooms that reward thick skin, taking hits from crowds and other comics without ever breaking his buoyant rhythm.
His 2024 special Thin Lips captures this dynamic cleanly. He mines his own physical insecurities—the title comes from an insult an inmate threw at him—and dissects his daily anxieties. He does not brood. When he considers buying a gun for home defense but worries he might just shoot himself instead, he delivers the thought with a casual bounce. He understands exactly how he looks and sounds. Instead of fighting it, he builds momentum by laying out every neurosis before the room can guess it.
Outside of standup, he hosts the podcast Sagdaddy Da Pod.
