He walks out, takes half a breath, and immediately starts talking twice as fast as everyone else in the room. He bobs his head, chops his hands through the air, and prods someone in the front row about what they do for a living. He is not looking for an easy target to humiliate. He genuinely wants to know what a logistics coordinator in Reading does all day, and within two minutes he turns the answer into a running narrative that drops back into the set an hour later.

British television used him for years as the referee on topical panel shows, which made his face familiar to millions, but his touring standup is looser and far sweatier than the studio version. He fills arenas and large theatres across the UK and Ireland without resorting to the canned pacing that often ruins shows in buildings that big.

His routines run on irritation with nonsense. He takes apart homeopathy, astrology, and ghost-hunting television shows, but the tone stays buoyant rather than smug. Instead of sneering from a pedestal, he acts out the logic until it breaks, pacing back and forth and laughing at how silly human beings can be.

That approach comes directly from what he studied before comedy. He took a degree in mathematics and theoretical physics at University College Dublin, and you can see that training in the way his sets fit together. Every stray remark from the first ten minutes has an exact place to land before the night finishes.
