Comedy Now!: Derek Edwards - Blood, Sweat & Beers

Derek Edwards leans entirely into the pace and perspective of a guy drinking at a legion hall in Timmins, Ontario. He doesn’t sprint through setups. He lets the rural Canadian viewpoint do the heavy lifting, relying on a delivery that sneaks up rather than shouting you down.

Filmed for the second season of CTV’s Comedy Now! in 1998, Blood, Sweat & Beers arrived just as Edwards was gaining real traction. Following a string of successful sets at Just for Laughs and the Vail Comedy Invitational, this televised set gave him a wider platform to refine his deliberate style. The crowd gets a focused dose of ordinary situations spun out by someone who refuses to rush the punchline.
