Ryan Belleville brings a restless, hyperactive energy to the microphone. He plays the fool on stage, leaning into a boyish distraction while slipping in weirdly specific observations about beavers and the differences between politicians like Tony Blair and Jean Chrétien. He commands the room with the kinetic confidence of someone who learned crowd control in an improv theater, keeping the audience slightly off-balance.

Filmed in Toronto for CTV, this 2002 set marked an unusually fast milestone. At the time of taping, Belleville was the youngest comedian to ever get a Comedy Now! half-hour. He had moved from Calgary’s Loose Moose Theatre to Toronto just a couple of years prior, rapidly bypassing the traditional slog of open mics and opening gigs. This quick ascent annoyed some older club comics, but his momentum was undeniable, backed up by a Phil Hartman Award win and steady demand on the Canadian circuit.
