Roseanne Barr bridges the gap between her working-class persona and her newly minted status as a wealthy television star on her 1990 comedy album. With her ABC sitcom dominating the ratings, Barr uses the recording to try out a more combative posture. She makes her expectations clear, explaining that men exist on earth solely to bring her food, build a comfortable hive for her larvae, and then move on so a younger drone with more stamina can take over.

Released by Hollywood Records as an audio-only stand-up record, I Enjoy Being a Girl captures Barr right as she married Tom Arnold and began shedding the apron-strings image that made her famous. She spends time complaining about her newfound wealth, admitting, “Before, I used to think that the rich were (expletive). Now I know they are”. The tracklist wanders through bits about rodeo queens and sexual preferences before culminating in a parodic rendition of the Rodgers and Hammerstein title track. Reviewers at the time, including the Los Angeles Times, noted the pivot was a bold step but felt her complaints about money lacked the punch of her earlier homemaker routines.
