Jimmy Fallon leans heavily into musical parody and rapid-fire impressions for his debut comedy album. The project opens with five fully produced studio tracks, including a surprisingly earnest falsetto on the pop spoof “Idiot Boyfriend” and a Beastie Boys homage about basketball. Once the recording transitions to a live stage, Fallon treats Troll Dolls as a vehicle for mimicry. He acts out how Nicolas Cage and Jerry Seinfeld might handle the toys, then imagines U2 and the Dave Matthews Band writing jingles for them.

Released in 2002 while Fallon was co-anchoring the Saturday Night Live Weekend Update desk, the release captures his transition from sketch player to rising star. The stand-up material caters directly to the college crowd in the room, running through quick observations about dormitory shower baskets, the walk of shame, and the exact dimensions of a mini-fridge freezer. Critics were mostly split, often noting the material itself felt thin, even as they acknowledged the technical accuracy of his Adam Sandler and Robin Williams impressions.
