Joe DeRosa steps onto the stage to explain exactly what anxiety feels like and why he blames a single group of professionals for everything wrong with the modern hospital system. His primary target isn’t the insurance companies or the doctors, but the nurses, prompting a loud inquiry into where the concept of the “hot nurse” actually originated. He commits entirely to the annoyance, turning an everyday interaction into a massive structural grievance.

Filmed at the Royale in Boston, the set aired in May 2013 as part of the second season of Comedy Central’s The Half Hour. DeRosa was balancing stand-up with a job writing for The Pete Holmes Show and had recently co-authored the advice book Cheat alongside Bill Burr and Robert Kelly. The television spot arrived on the heels of his comedy album The Depression Auction, serving as a clean presentation of his dependably frustrated stage persona.
