He treats every front row like an interrogation he plans to win.

He stands over the edge of the stage, built like a powerlifter, holding the microphone low and staring right into the first two rows. There is no gentle warmup or self-deprecating ramp. He asks a couple how long they have been dating, cuts off the answer four words in, and turns whatever they mumbled into three rapid, filthy tags before they can finish their beer. If a line misses, he does not back off or pivot to an observational premise. He doubles down on the target, leaning forward until the room gives in from sheer pressure.

Berg is an unapologetic New York club lifer. You do not look for him on prestige theater tours or high-concept festival bills. You find him running late shows at The Stand, darting between downtown basements, or holding down rooms where tourists wander in unprepared. The documentary 25 Sets showed him hitting that exact number of comedy clubs across the city in one night, which says everything about his engine. He lives entirely inside the club grind.

Prepared material usually takes a backseat to whatever is sitting in front of him. His written jokes are short, coarse, and aimed low, but his real asset is reaction time. He can pick apart an audience member’s shirt, turn an awkward silence into an insult, and improvise ten minutes out of thin air without breaking rhythm. It can feel like a blunt instrument when a crowd wants subtle storytelling, but he does not care about subtle.

A Toronto native who spent his early years bodybuilding before relocating to Manhattan, he treats twenty minutes behind a mic like a sparring round.
