Vicious insults delivered with sequined glee and cartoon villain bounce.

He stalks the stage in sparkles and metallic prints, grinning like a storybook villain who just locked the kids in the oven. The voice bounces between a sing-song lilt and an abrasive squawk. A joke will open with the gentle cadence of a bedtime story, pause just long enough for the front row to relax, and then drop a punchline that attacks someone’s hairline or life choices. Instead of backing away from the room’s gasp, he leans forward on his toes, flashing a broad, unblinking smile until the shock gives way to laughter.

He built his following in the Belly Room at the Comedy Store, competing in roast tournaments where comics usually try to sound like tough guys. Hooper took the opposite route, dressing in glitter and treating insult comedy like a bizarre party game. He brought that exact act to network television, getting booed by thousands on America’s Got Talent for roasting the celebrity judges before winning the room back on his own terms.

In Brace Yourself, he turns that theatrical aggression on his own brush with mortality. He walks through Stage 3 lymphoma, chemo, and medical debt without ever dropping into a hushed, reverent voice. The circumstances are terrifying, but he treats a hospital room with the same loud, silly disrespect he directs at hecklers.

Years on the roast circuit taught him never to slow down for pity. He does not ask the audience to feel bad for him; he just wants the room laughing at the sheer absurdity of being sick.
