The swagger of an arena emcee loose in a comedy club.

Woods paces the stage like he is working a sideline. He talks fast, grinning between sentences, cutting off silence before the room has a chance to cool down. When an audience member mutters a comment or laughs out of turn, he does not fire off a cruel insult. Instead, he spins on his heels, widens his eyes, and pulls them straight into the bit, treating the interruption like an alley-oop pass he set up himself.

His material leans on familiar club territory: awkward dating rules, family cookouts, and the unwritten laws of the neighborhood. The jokes work best when he turns them into full physical scenes. He will act out a petty argument by bouncing between two stances, pitching his voice up to mimic an exasperated girlfriend before dropping his chin to deliver a low, deadpan rebuttal. He is at his funniest when playing completely baffled by everyday behavior.

He built a loyal following out of Sacramento, working comedy clubs and the basketball court as an in-arena host for the Kings. That background explains how he controls a crowd. He never lets the tempo drop.

Sometimes that top gear rushes past the writing, leaning on stamina instead of finding a sharper tag. In a late show where a crowd starts to drift, though, that pace pulls the room right back together.
