London Hughes takes the stage like she is already annoyed you haven’t bought her a drink. Her act is loud, physical, and fueled by a genuine bewilderment that the universe does not treat her like royalty. She works a room at high volume. A typical bit involves her mapping out the exact mechanics of a terrible date, flinging herself into a reenactment of a bad sexual encounter while yelling about the audacity of men. She is a British comic who decided the UK was too small for her. After becoming the first Black British woman nominated for the main Edinburgh Comedy Award, she relocated to Los Angeles to build an act designed for American theaters. She has left the polite constraints of panel shows behind entirely.
Her sets revolve around sex, dating, and her massive ego. She treats the crowd like friends at a loud brunch. Instead of quiet wordplay, she commands the room through motion and volume. She highlights the double standard of audiences praising gross male comics while judging women, not with a gentle observation, but by shouting the hypocrisy while stomping across the stage. If a joke doesn’t land on the first pass, she repeats the premise louder, glaring at the front row until they catch up.
Before standup, she spent years hosting children’s television in the UK. She brings it up on stage mostly to highlight how absurd it was that someone with her R-rated sensibilities was ever put in front of toddlers.

Hughes performed To Catch a D*ck at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe to critical acclaim, becoming the first Black woman nominated for the Best Comedy Show Edinburgh Comedy Award.
