Mike Brody
Stand-up specials
High-strung Midwestern road comedy fueled by petty panic and clumsiness.
Brody hits the stage with the nervous bounce of someone who just locked his keys inside a running car. He does not lean on the stand or act too cool for the room. Instead, he sells mild domestic embarrassments through restless pacing, wide eyes, and physical act-outs of his own incompetence. When a story involves getting startled by a butterfly or botching an encounter at a fancy gym, he plays it at top volume, contorting himself to show the exact second his composure collapsed.
He is a Minneapolis club veteran built for rooms between Chicago and the Dakotas. While coastal scenes often reward detached irony, Brody works in the Midwestern club tradition of keeping the engine revved. His clean-leaning sets, including Not Afraid of Butterflies, pick up traction because the material never feels polite; he approaches ordinary inconveniences like emergencies.
His best material treats irrational neuroses as life-or-death situations. When a setup edges into standard observational territory, Brody carries it by committing completely to the humiliation. He makes the audience side with him by making sure he is always the biggest fool in the room.
Brody started out in Iowa around 2000 before settling in the Twin Cities, where he helps anchor the local open-mic circuit and co-hosts the podcast Only You Would Think That with Jessi Campbell.
