Samson Crouppen

Samson Crouppen works a microphone like he is trying to talk over a loud kitchen table. He leans in close, drops his chin, and delivers setups in short, blunt bursts before snapping upright to fire off the punch. If an audience hesitates, he does not slow down to explain himself. He doubles down on the premise, laughing through his teeth and swatting the air with a flat palm to wave off anyone who is slow to follow.

He operates on the independent edge of the Los Angeles circuit, staging comedy on his own terms. Instead of chasing traditional club gatekeepers, he built out a DIY platform from his Silver Lake yard with the Samson’s World series and self-financed his special Proof I Was Here. He draws people who prefer club sweat to industry polish, running sets for audiences that want immediate reaction over high-concept premises.

His material stays anchored to the grind of domestic life: long marriages, raising kids on an unpredictable paycheck, and trying to keep his cool in traffic. What works is his refusal to make fatherhood cute. When a bit runs thin, he sometimes leans on volume to finish the job, but his instinct for where the laugh lives keeps the set moving.

A St. Louis native, he spent his early years in Los Angeles performing on the Phat Tuesdays lineup at the Comedy Store. Cutting his teeth in those rooms taught him how to survive anywhere, demanding a directness that still marks every set he plays.
