Tuxford Turner

Tuxford Turner brings a theater kid’s stamina to a standup stage. They use their entire six-foot-two frame to sell a premise, folding and unfolding behind the microphone. If a joke requires them to play a strange guy at a party, they do not just adopt a voice. They drop into a severe slouch, contort their shoulders, and hold a grimace three beats longer than a traditional comic would. The rhythm relies less on tidy setups and punchlines, and more on frantic physical pacing.

Coming out of Chicago’s improv and sketch scenes, Turner works in Los Angeles with the polish of a trained actor. That background gives them a confident grip on a room, even when the material itself is heavily self-deprecating. They do not share the guarded, cynical detachment common in alternative spaces. They want to put on an energetic show, and they will sweat to make it happen.

You can watch this crowd control in their 2023 release Live From The Raven Room. Turner thrives on sudden volume shifts and elaborate act-outs. When a bit wanders, they usually muscle it back on track with sheer physical commitment. The occasional trade-off of this approach is that the performance outshines the writing. A crowd will laugh hard at the act-out, but might forget the core premise by the time they reach the parking lot.

Before moving to the West Coast, Turner spent years as a fixture in Chicago, managing venues and training at theaters like iO and the Annoyance. That acting background also anchors their screen work, including a starring role in the 2024 indie feature BAM!.
