The Half Hour

Andy Woodhull

Comedy Central · 2015 · 30 min

The quiet indignities of instant fatherhood and domestic compromise.

Andy Woodhull walks out looking like an easygoing neighbor, then spends twenty minutes laying out the indignities of instant family life. He married a single mother with young daughters, which mostly meant trading his bachelor routine for preschool head lice, turf wars over memorabilia from past relationships, and the logistical misery of quiet sex through paper-thin drywall. Taped at the Royale in Boston in June 2015 and broadcast that September on season four of Comedy Central’s half-hour showcase, the set caught Woodhull right after a 2014 spot on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, where he became the first comic to make a network television debut on that iteration of the show. Instead of sentimental sitcom warmth, he treats the stepkids like tiny roommates who completely outrank him.
