Tom Segura is very comfortable being the bad guy, and his fourth Netflix special relies heavily on that willingness to irritate. Filmed at the Moody Theater in Austin, Texas, the set arrived in March 2020, just as global lockdowns began, offering homebound audiences a heavy dose of his characteristic cynicism. At this point in his career, Segura had built a massive following through his podcast network, Your Mom’s House, and the material here shows a performer fully locked into his onstage identity.

The material leans into the perspective of a man who is exhausted by other people’s expectations. He details his irritation with oversharing strangers at the bank, travelers who insist on looking at clouds on early morning flights, and his own mother’s reaction to natural disasters. He also addresses his feelings about offense, arguing that while audiences have every right to be angry at his jokes, they have no right to expect him to care.

While some bits trade in tired tropes, such as a lazy jab at gender identity, the hour works best when Segura turns his clinical, unsentimental gaze toward his family. He recounts defending his young son from a playground bully with unnecessary intensity and details the absolute joy of having plans canceled. He even pauses the cynicism briefly to offer actual, sincere career advice to the audience, only to quickly pivot back to his comfort zone of calculated hostility.
