Bill Burr has spent much of his career playing the loudest, most exasperated guy in the room. Here, he is still shouting, but the anger is turned inward as he tries to figure out how to be a better father and husband. The centerpiece of the set is an extended story about taking mushrooms in the desert to cure his rage issues, resulting in a rare moment of vulnerability that actually works. He still leans heavily into his usual provocations—mocking both sides of the pandemic debate, defending Sean Connery, and complaining about his wife—but there is an underlying desire for personal growth that keeps the set from feeling entirely cynical.

Filmed outdoors at the Red Rocks Amphitheatre in Colorado, the July 2022 release was Burr’s fifth solo special for Netflix. The massive open-air venue provides a visually striking backdrop, though the scale occasionally dilutes the intimate tension of his best club work. Critics and audiences noted that while his segments on cancel culture and marriage rely on somewhat dated tropes, the storytelling about his four-year-old daughter and his own deep-seated anger issues show a comic actively wrestling with his own shelf life.
