Tom Papa treats minor domestic indignities with the gravity of a seasoned reporter. Long before he became a familiar voice on radio and the patron saint of middle-aged marital endurance, he was on stage breaking down the unsettling details of hotel room sanitation. He maps out the specific pitfalls of trying to roleplay with a spouse. He also details the physical and emotional complications of walking through life as a child with an uncommonly large head.

The set was filmed at the Hudson Theatre in New York City for the fifth season of Comedy Central Presents. Arriving in August 2001, the twenty-one-minute performance served as a national introduction to Papa’s polite but exasperated stage persona. It captures a working comic taking a standard cable television showcase and using it to lay the groundwork for decades of theater tours.
