Before he pivoted to writing novels and teaching story structure, Alan Watt was a working road comic. He taped this half-hour set for Canada’s Comedy Now! series in 1999 under the title It’s a Beautiful World, capturing a snapshot of his stand-up career just as he was preparing to leave the stage behind.
Watt spent his late teens and twenties touring North American clubs and logging a brief appearance as a hot dog vendor on Seinfeld. He eventually traded the microphone for prose, writing the award-winning book Diamond Dogs and founding the L.A. Writers’ Lab. This television taping aired just as that transition began.
