Watching a late-nineties stand-up set completely devoid of profanity usually feels like a hostage situation, but Eric Tunney built his career on working clean. The Windsor native was already a familiar face in Canadian broadcasting by the time he taped this half-hour for the inaugural season of CTV’s Comedy Now!, having logged time hosting the teen program Switchback and sharing a desk with a puppet on Ed the Sock.

Rather than chasing edge, he leans on patient delivery and mild observation. He keeps the crowd comfortable, dealing in low-stakes family anecdotes and calling out his grandfather for fabricating stories about getting into a fistfight with Hitler during the Second World War.
