I Know It's Wrong

Dana Gould

Comedy Dynamics · 2015 · 50 min

Pop culture, true crime, and odd obsessions at Seattle's Neptune Theatre.

Dana Gould constructs an elaborate hierarchy comparing rock bands to theoretical physicists, deciding Keith Moon was the Beatles of The Who and Stephen Hawking was the Beatles of science. A few minutes later, he slips into an imagined morning-after conversation between John Lennon and a cicada bug. The material lives comfortably in that pocket of vintage pop obsession and unapologetic morbidity.\n\nFilmed at the Neptune Theatre in Seattle, Washington, the 55-minute performance caught Gould long after his departure as a writer and co-executive producer on The Simpsons. By then, he had settled back into regular touring and his podcast, working with the cadence of an old-school club comic who happens to have a deep interest in pulp horror.\n\nHe picks apart reality television by framing it as an amateur production where non-actors try to guess what non-writers want them to do in artificial scenarios. The set also makes room for the Black Dahlia, local crime lore, and an accurate Dr. Zaius impression from Planet of the Apes.
