Live In Provo
Comedy Dynamics · 2017 · 41 min
Clean suburban stand-up about marriage, fatherhood, and losing everyday arguments.
Don Friesen builds his act around the undignified compromises of suburban family life, playing the self-styled “fun dad” whose domestic authority eroded the second he signed a marriage license. He sells the premise through animated physicality and goofy character voices, framing his marital surrender as an involuntary trip on what he calls the “Wuss Express”.
Taped at the Dry Bar Comedy club in Provo, Utah, during the platform’s initial run in 2017, the 41-minute set stays strictly clean while leaning into familiar domestic friction. Friesen covers the indignity of trailing a spouse through big-box stores, the terror of LASIK eye surgery, taking an Alaskan cruise, and coping with patchy cell reception.
A veteran club comic who won the San Francisco International Comedy Competition twice, Friesen relies on seasoned timing and animated stage energy rather than reinvention. The material sticks close to recognizable middle-class territory, relying on physical commitment rather than surprise twists to keep the room engaged.
