Stand-up is rarely staged inside an active military vessel. For this set, the comic trades a standard theater for the hangar of HMS Ark Royal. Standing before an audience of Royal Navy sailors docked in Gibraltar, he skips a tightly structured routine in favor of heavy crowd work. He uses the sheer oddity of the venue to his advantage, relying on his trademark theatrical exasperation and mock indignation to play off the crew.

The performance is the result of a surprising late-career revival. After being embraced by a new generation of university students, Channel 4 commissioned him to record a series of shows addressing non-traditional audiences. Filmed in November 1991, the project was originally slated for six installments, but only four were completed. The network aired the footage posthumously the following summer, and the broadcast was noted as a fitting memorial to a veteran comic applying his usual stagecraft to an unexpected environment.
