He is trying to transition his brand of physical self-destruction into structured stand-up storytelling. Instead of just lighting himself on fire or getting bitten by animals, he stands in front of a microphone to reflect on his journey. He traces his path from failing out of college to attending the Ringling Bros. Clown College, and eventually surviving the drug-fueled heights of his MTV fame. Of course, he still performs a few stunts on stage, including letting an audience member choke him unconscious to demonstrate a dubious skill he learned along the way.\n\nFilmed at the Paramount Theatre in Austin, Texas, the 2016 special came at a pivotal moment in his career. Now clean, sober, and facing middle age, he frames much of the performance around his efforts to reform his past behavior, focusing heavily on his self-described sex addiction and the absurdity of trying to live a quiet life after years of reckless degeneracy. He walks the audience through behind-the-scenes moments from his Jackass days, offering a retrospective on the physical toll and the bizarre logic behind some of his most famous pranks.\n\nThe special, which premiered on Showtime in April 2016, was received as a surprising success for the network, finding an audience that appreciated the contrast between his raspy, high-energy delivery and his reflective, almost vulnerable storytelling. While it remains a hybrid stunt-and-comedy show rather than a traditional stand-up set, it served as the proof of concept that launched his subsequent theatrical tours.
