Put Me In Coach
Comedy Dynamics · Album · 2018
A former teacher works through early fatherhood and coaching youth sports.
Jay Nog spent years working as an elementary school teacher and youth football coach before taking stand-up seriously. That background sets the tone: he approaches fatherhood, marriage, and suburban milestones with the weariness of someone who already spent a decade managing other people’s children.
There is no sentimental parenting advice here. He admits he did not bond with his infant son right away, jokes about the logistics of pregnant sex, and complains about the pressure of writing his own wedding vows. Later, he contrasts the orderly trains of Tokyo with the grime of the New York subway and recounts coaching youth teams in Yonkers.
Recorded at the New York Comedy Club and released by Comedy Dynamics in January 2018, the 48-minute audio album arrived during a steady stretch of club work. Around the time of its release, Nog was writing for MTV2’s Guy Code, hosting the Paid or Pain program on SiriusXM, and coming off a stand-up appearance on AXS TV’s Gotham Comedy Live.
