The Flamingo Special
Comedy Dynamics · 2018 · 50 min
Clean observational stand-up about marriage, tall bodies, and domestic friction.
Johnny Beehner works comfortably within the friction of domestic life, turning minor compromises into self-deprecating routines. His strongest stretch involves coming to terms with his wife’s artisanal tastes—particularly the quiet ordeal of trying to shower with rough, odd-shaped bars of homemade oatmeal soap that crumble before doing any actual cleaning.
Taped at the Dry Bar Comedy club in Provo, Utah, and released wide through Comedy Dynamics in 2018, the set leans into an approachable, clean sensibility developed through his background with The Second City and the Upright Citizens Brigade. Beehner was already a seasoned road comic by then, having made a late-night stand-up appearance on the Late Show with David Letterman during Letterman’s final months on the air in 2015. Here, he relies on conversational club material: being an unathletic tall guy, learning how to surrender trivial marital arguments, and the mild dread surrounding natural childbirth and baby names.
