The Blackest

Calling a stand-up record The Blackest after graduating from Brown University and playing the resident nerd on MTV is an intentional setup. Jordan Carlos leans into the gap between racial expectations and his comfortable reality, mining humor from the friction between nineties rap bravado and his day-to-day life as an anxious father in an interracial marriage. He picks at the absurdity of getting labeled an oreo, imagines the disaster of armed gentrifiers in Hipsters with Guns, and worries over the domestic mechanics of having a mixed-race baby. Comedy Dynamics released the 42-minute audio album in July 2015, capturing Carlos right as he was balancing club sets with writing and regular panel appearances on The Nightly Show with Larry Wilmore.
