JZ's New Album

Jenny Zigrino spends her debut stand-up album establishing herself as a sex-positive, brassy performer who is more than comfortable talking about her low standards, her heritage as the child of a Russian immigrant, and her tendency to overshare. She has a heavy focus on storytelling and crowd interaction, keeping the crowd loose with her brash Midwest-meets-East-Coast attitude. Recorded over three nights in September 2016 at the Comedy Club on State in Madison, Wisconsin, the album arrived at a high-water mark for Zigrino’s early career. After earning a spot as a New Face at Just for Laughs in 2016 and landing film roles in “Bad Santa 2” and “Fifty Shades of Black”, she spent 2017 securing her footing in the national comedy scene, which included taping her own Comedy Central half-hour special later that same year. Among the standout tracks are her breakdown of why country music feels deeply repressed, a parody of Winston Churchill’s secret diary, and her thoughts on the “sieg-heil-no” hipster haircut. The tracklist itself is a gag, with the eleven separate tracks spelling out ‘I Hope That Jay Z Doesn’t Sue Me For Doing This’—a nod to both her own initials and the famous Brooklyn rapper.
