You Had All Day

Lamont Ferguson

Comedy Dynamics · 2017 · 42 min

Lamont Ferguson brings road-tested timing to family grievances and midlife.

The bit that anchors the set belongs to Lamont Ferguson’s mother. Whenever her kids interrupted her schedule with a basic need, she had one response: “You had all day.” Ferguson points out the lasting utility of the phrase, pulling it out of childhood and using it decades later against drivers who hesitate before turning across oncoming traffic.

He takes a similar approach to family discipline, recounting how his mother once promised their father would return home to find all four children buried in the yard. The realization for a seven-year-old was simple enough: she had already committed the act in her mind and decided prison was worth a little quiet.

Filmed at the Dry Bar Comedy club in Provo, Utah, and directed by Isaac Halasima, the 42-minute set caught Ferguson with three decades of club work already behind him. He won the Seattle International Comedy Competition in the 1990s and built his career touring rooms that demanded crowd management and precision. Under the venue’s strict clean-comedy format, he leans on rhythm and patience, picking through generational friction with millennials, the aches of turning 46, and why aging backward like Benjamin Button makes practical sense.
