Kay relies on his staple brand of nostalgia, working the massive stage with physical routines about taping the Sunday Top 40 off the radio, family wedding DJs, and the precise social rules of answering machines.\n\nThe show concludes with one of his trademark interactive sing-alongs, taking the crowd through \”Danny Boy\” while sucking helium from a balloon.\n\nFor fans, the release was controversial. Coming so soon after his Live at the Bolton Albert Halls DVD, viewers quickly realized the stand-up portion of the Manchester set was cut down to just 47 minutes. Worse, it featured almost identical material to the Bolton show. It was a blatant commercial play for the Christmas market, packed with the Tony Christie \”Is This the Way to Amarillo\” music video and a tour documentary to pad out the runtime. It sold massive numbers anyway, demonstrating that in 2004, British audiences were more than happy to pay twice for the same jokes.
