Union Delegate
Comedy Dynamics · Album · 2015 · 50 min
Deadpan club stand-up built on bad behavior and tight punchlines.
Recine walks out with the flat cadence of a guy waiting in line at the DMV, then drops premises so sour they would clear the room if he showed any excitement. He talks about his mentally disabled brother, the logistics of bad pedophiles, and selling cigarettes with total disinterest. Because he never winks at the crowd or pretends to feel guilty, the internal logic carries the jokes instead of the shock value.
It is an approach that makes grotesque thoughts sound like common sense.
Released as an audio album by Comedy Dynamics in November 2015, Union Delegate caught Recine in the middle of a steady climb through the New York club circuit. He had already performed on Conan and written for the MTV Video Music Awards, and he would tape a Comedy Central half-hour a few months later.
The fifty-three-minute set moves through petty street crimes, mob movies, and the grim reality of day jobs without ever attempting to elevate the room. Outlets like The Interrobang and The Comedy Bureau placed the record on their year-end lists for 2015.
