Away Game

The panic of waking up at a white partner’s apartment to find a bathroom devoid of lotion or cocoa butter sets the tone for an album built on practical friction. Davis treats daily annoyances less like high-minded social dilemmas and more like administrative traps, from texting behind the wheel to discovering that four years of higher education yielded sixty grand of debt and a major in bankruptcy. Released in September 2015 by Comedy Dynamics, the 42-minute audio album followed his 2014 debut, Home Game, documenting material refined on club dates across the country while he was working the New York circuit and booking bit television spots. Davis also works in specific material about living with sickle cell anemia and enduring regular hospital stays, maintaining a brisk stage bounce without trivializing the condition.
