One Night Stand: Jeff Marder

Jeff Marder brings the polish of a working club comic to his 1991 entry in HBO’s One Night Stand anthology. Filmed at the Vic Theatre in Chicago, the set captures a comedian taking full advantage of premium cable’s lack of a censor, delivering a straightforward performance without the content restrictions of standard broadcast television.

The early nineties were a busy stretch for Marder. Alongside frequent appearances on Comic Strip Live and An Evening at the Improv, he was actively pushing for a larger foothold in late-night television. He had recently shot a pilot for an ABC talk show titled Marder at Midnight and was logging regular guest spots with Arsenio Hall.
