Let Me Tell Ya
Comedy Dynamics · 2015 · 63 min
A neurotic Long Island comic confronts upstate marriage and restaurant etiquette.
Pete Correale understands the quiet warfare that breaks out when four adults sit down at a restaurant and a complimentary bread basket hits the table. He takes two rolls immediately to establish dominance, then sweats through the mental math of who ate what before daring to reach for the final piece. It is classic diner-counter aggravation, anchored by a comic who treats low-stakes domestic panic as a competitive sport.
Filmed at The Vic Theatre in Chicago in May 2015 and broadcast that November on Showtime, the hour caught Correale during a steady career transition. He was building a following co-hosting The Pete and Sebastian Show alongside Sebastian Maniscalco, just ahead of landing a staff writing role on the sitcom Kevin Can Wait.
Correale had recently traded New York City for rural Chautauqua County, and the culture shock shapes much of the material. Between routines about local Walmart trips and the absurdities of marriage counseling, he tracks how domestic routines slowly grind down any lingering desire to look cool.
