Preacher Lawson does not tell jokes so much as he throws his whole skeleton into them. His bit about wanting street credibility falls apart the second he admits he cannot do time because he is too ticklish to be patted down by prison guards, turning a simple premise into full-body pantomime. Recorded shortly after his top-ten finish on America’s Got Talent in 2017, this eleven-minute showcase on the George Wallace-hosted series captures Lawson in his club element before his first full-length special. Between the prison routine and a bewildered story about an overly friendly stranger, the writing stays light, but Lawson treats the stage like a track meet and commits completely to every punchline on pure kinetic effort.
