When I Saw Hamilton
Stand Up! Records · Album · 2019
An aging club comic details the quiet terrors of getting older.
Rich Vos wants you to know that the scariest thing in his life right now isn’t the guns that were once pointed at him, but the prospect of slipping in the shower. His 2019 audio release, When I Saw Hamilton…, leans heavily into the transition from a reckless, drug-fueled youth to a middle-aged existence defined by Tylenol, anxiety medication, and holding onto handrails for dear life.
The album, released by The Stand Comedy Records, captured his performance at The Stand Comedy Club in New York City. Vos was well into his fourth decade in stand-up at the time of the recording, serving as a reliable fixture of the East Coast club circuit and co-host of the My Wife Hates Me podcast. On stage, he strips away any pretense of dignity, mocking his own physical limitations, domestic frustrations, and the quiet realization that he is simply too old for his former obsessions.
The Interrobang named the project its Album of the Year in 2019. The material covers bad babysitters, travel mishaps, and theater-going frustrations, all delivered with the scratchy New Jersey cadence that has made him a staple of club lineups.
