I Blame The Publik Skool System

Rodney Laney built his stand-up style around the unbothered skepticism that comes from growing up in Paterson, New Jersey. His central argument is simple: surviving underfunded classrooms and blunt teachers leaves a person completely unsuited for polite society, but uniquely equipped to spot nonsense. He works at an easy, deliberate pace, treating childhood chaos and modern adult anxieties as part of the same extended joke.

Released in June 2016 by Comedy Dynamics, the 45-minute audio album arrived after Laney had spent years working the New York club circuit and appearing on televised showcases like HBO’s Bad Boys of Comedy and AXS TV’s Gotham Comedy Live. It captures a veteran comic running through the backbone of his live repertoire without unnecessary studio gloss.

Bits like “Paterson” and “Surprised Parent” focus on family dynamics, aging, and the friction between old-school discipline and modern parenting.
