The Wedding Album

The Dan Band

Comedy Dynamics · Album · 2015 · 50 min

Foul-mouthed covers and originals designed to ruin an actual reception.

The joke of fronting a wedding band that cannot stop dropping profanity over smooth radio hits is fundamentally a five-minute movie gag. Dan Finnerty stretched that bit into years of live touring after memorable appearances in Old School and The Hangover, but The Wedding Album approaches the gimmick as a polished studio project. It trades live club chaos for slick production, leaning into the premise that someone might actually put this on during cocktail hour.

Released in July 2015 on Comedy Dynamics, the ten-track album mixes profane covers with original songs written alongside unlikely collaborators. Beyoncé’s “Drunk in Love” and Air Supply’s “Making Love Out of Nothing at All” get the standard treatment, packed with jarring expletives over completely straight-faced arrangements.

The real curiosities are the originals. Matchbox Twenty’s Rob Thomas co-wrote and sings on “Three Way,” treating an awkward bedroom dilemma like a late-nineties radio anthem, while Train contributed to the blunt track “I Can’t Believe I Love You”. Bridget Everett and Nicole Scherzinger also drop in, giving the record far more genuine vocal firepower than a novelty concept usually deserves.

Upon release, the album topped the iTunes comedy chart.
