Filmed in his hometown of Houston, Texas, in front of a sold-out crowd, the 2022 self-released special was a massive gamble for Siddiq. Rather than waiting for a streaming platform to greenlight his work, he chose to self-finance and release the 82-minute show directly on YouTube. The bet paid off, racking up over 19 million views and establishing him as one of the preeminent storytellers in modern comedy.

The material focuses on his adolescent years in the Houston projects, including being handed a gun at age ten and left home alone, his early years as a self-described street pharmaceutical rep selling drugs, and the reality of fighting dope fiends in the 1980s. Directed by Eric Abrams, the special relies entirely on Siddiq’s deliberate, conversational pacing and gift for character work.

It serves as the foundation for what eventually became a four-part series of specials documenting his incarceration and subsequent release. The massive online audience it found paved the way for Siddiq to transition to theater tours entirely on his own terms.
