The Live Series: Barry Hilton

Barry Hilton built a three-decade career on physical comedy and a gregarious stage presence. The South African veteran brings his elastic expressions and animated storytelling to Johannesburg for The Live Series, turning everyday frustrations into highly active performances. He attacks mundane topics like taking selfies and the realities of regional load-shedding with the manic commitment of a physical clown, elevating standard premises through sheer force of will.

Filmed at the Lyric Theatre, the hour-plus set was commissioned specifically for DStv’s BoxOffice platform. Released in early 2015, the show arrived shortly after Hilton received a Lifetime Achiever Award at the local Comics’ Choice Awards. The project was a commercial success for the network, reportedly outpacing several Hollywood feature films in regional video-on-demand rentals during its debut month.
