Hipster Ghosts
Comedy Dynamics · 2017 · 63 min
Twin stand-ups harmonize neurotic riffs on modern haunting and pop culture.
The Sklar Brothers work like an athletic double-play combination, trading sentences midway through and echoing punchlines until a loose premise turns into an escalating argument. The title routine imagines ghosts not as vengeful spirits rattling chains, but as passive-aggressive hipsters lingering around an apartment to critique pour-over coffee methods and record collections.
Filmed at Lincoln Hall in Chicago and directed by Steven Feinartz, the hour caught Randy and Jason Sklar as they were launching their podcast Dumb People Town and balancing recurring television spots on Those Who Can’t.
The material leans heavily into hyper-specific friction: confusing the Jonestown tragedy with the colonial settlement of Jamestown, transcribing the studio dynamic between Charles Barkley and Shaquille O’Neal, and diagnosing a family dog with selective racial bias.
