A crowd-work-free set of rapid-fire dark family comedy.
Rate this special
A rapid-fire barrage of short jokes is the main draw here, especially in an era dominated by casual storytelling and heavy audience interrogation. Scott Kelley deliberately steers clear of any crowd work, choosing instead to deliver a tight, rapid set that constantly toggles between clean family anecdotes and surprisingly dark punchlines. The material moves at a relentless pace, focusing entirely on structured joke-writing rather than spontaneous stage interactions.
Filmed in September 2024 at the ArtsAltoona Center in his hometown of Altoona, Pennsylvania, the performance was released on Prime Video in March 2025 before making its way to YouTube. At roughly thirty-five minutes, the set moves quickly through domestic life, featuring bits about the awkward aftermath of a vasectomy and the unpredictable things his son says to schoolteachers. Kelley, who has spent years writing for Second City’s ‘TMI Hollywood’ stage show and drafting promotional material for corporate clients, treats the stage like a writer’s workshop, cramming as many setups and punchlines as possible into his debut half-hour.
