On stage, Field moves with the loose, unhurried posture of someone killing time in an empty hallway. He will deliver a pun so aggressively simple it feels like a riddle from a children’s book, pause just long enough for the groans to clear, and offer nothing more than a faint, satisfied half-smile. If an audience gives him a flat reaction, he does not scramble to win them back. He leans into the silence, sips from a carton of Ribena, or points out how lukewarm the applause sounded before advancing to the next piece of scrap paper.

He has stayed mostly in the fringe underbrush, playing sticky-floored basement rooms and small festival spaces where deliberate amateurism feels at home. He is the kind of comic booked for late-night festival bills and cult club slots, trusted by other acts because he never tries to polish himself into a slick television package.

His shows, like The Andy Field Experience, rely on cheap visual gags, felt-tip illustrations, and handwritten slides that simulate a lecture gone hopelessly sideways. The rhythm works because he never breaks character or apologizes for how ridiculous the premise is. When he branches into longer stories about warehouse squats or accidental drug trips, the pacing occasionally drifts, but the detour is usually rescued by another blunt punchline.

After winning the Chortle Student Comedy Award in 2015, he chose to keep his live sets stubbornly low-tech and self-contained. He writes for the room he is standing in, not the industry watching from the back.
