Tyree Elaine

Tyree Elaine treats romantic dysfunction with the tired patience of someone who has seen every routine before. Her set focuses on the messy realities of dating, from waking up in the middle of the night convinced God wants her to search her boyfriend’s phone to the logistical headache of side dudes acting possessive.

The 26-minute set was directed by Royale Watkins and produced by Russell Simmons’ All Def Digital, filmed in Los Angeles before a live audience. It premiered on NBCUniversal’s streaming service Seeso in November 2016 as part of its Stand-Up Streaming Fest, coinciding with the viral success of Elaine’s online sketches.

A local regular who began performing at Inglewood’s JSpot and became a semifinalist on NBC’s Last Comic Standing, Elaine relies on matter-of-fact storytelling rather than physical stunts. The special caught her club set right before she transitioned into writing for television series such as The Conners and The Last O.G.
