Autobiographical club stand-up tracing a neurotic progression into adulthood.
Anthony DeVito approaches stand-up without the manufactured cynicism common among New York club regulars, relying instead on clean setup-punch craftsmanship and an oddly sunny neurosis. His theory on the eventual demise of racism rests on pure demographic mixing, where future bigots are forced into absurdly specific grievances against quarter-Mexican, half-Jewish neighbors running combination taco-bank laundromats.
The 44-minute audio set arrived during a career upswing in 2017. That same year, DeVito made his network stand-up debut on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, taped a Comedy Central half-hour special, and led the writing room for MSG Network’s late-night sports comedy show People Talking Sports and Other Stuff.
Released by Comedy Central Records, the album plays out like a spoken resume organized in chronological sequence. Tracks map out his youth in New Jersey with his mother and stepfather, a brief relocation to Hawaii, and the awkward transition into adult domesticity. The material moves briskly through quick tags rather than sprawling narratives, right down to an odd backstage encounter with the pop band Train.
