He had recently earned a rare standing ovation on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno, and around the time this set debuted, LaPorte was performing for U.S. troops in Iraq alongside Drew Carey and securing a supporting role in the Tim Allen vehicle The Shaggy Dog.
