Sam Morril’s delivery remains as steady and low-key as ever, even as his material ventures into chaotic territory. He works with a quiet, rhythm-heavy cadence, setting up elaborate narratives only to puncture them with sudden, dry punchlines. Rather than relying on high-energy theatrics, he leans into a keen sense of the absurd in everyday frustrations—like a ridiculous lie he tweeted about an airline while drunk in the back row of an airplane, or the comparative authority of a television detective who smokes cigarettes versus one who vapes kiwi-mango juice.

Filmed at the Wilbur Theatre in Boston, where he had sold out nine shows the previous year, the hour arrived in July 2024 as Morril’s first release for Amazon Prime Video. At this point in his career, he was transitioning from a hard-working club staple to a theater headliner, also co-hosting the popular podcast We Might Be Drunk with Mark Normand. The set favors tight, joke-first writing over theatrical storytelling, though he touches on modern anxieties surrounding artificial intelligence and cable news.

He is particularly effective when turning his focus inward, detailing a disastrous relationship with a woman who became furious when he tried to explain that physical attraction naturally softens over time. Other memorable segments find him mocking the idea of mind-controlled wheelchairs and questioning whether the media coverage of complex global conflicts makes him nostalgic for simpler, localized crimes.
