Wade McElwain brings the energy of a former fraternity social director to the stage, working the room with the blunt style of a dedicated road dog. Life Goes On captures the comic dealing in rapid-fire one-liners and crude observations, laying the groundwork for a stand-up career built on cynical antagonism. Broadcast in late 1998 as part of the television showcase Comedy Now!, the set caught McElwain at twenty-six, fresh off a victory at the Toronto Comedy Search. He quickly leveraged the exposure into creating and hosting the game show Gutterball Alley for The Comedy Network.
