Nobody's Keeping You Here
Comedy Dynamics · 2017 · 43 min
Celebrity impressions and deadpan keyboard jokes for a clean crowd.
Dave Burleigh built his stand-up around a mimic’s ear and the mechanics of a reliable club headliner. The strongest run here takes standard impressionist comedy and puts it to work in the service industry, imagining actors waiting tables before their big breaks. Christopher Walken aggressively talks a patron into blueberry pie instead of tiramisu, Nicolas Cage unravels over basic food orders, and Burleigh takes requests from the room to see who he can imitate on the fly.
Taped at the Dry Bar Comedy club in Provo, Utah, the 43-minute set aired during the platform’s initial 2017 season. Years after a semifinal appearance on America’s Got Talent and a starring role as Charlie Sheen in a parody film, Burleigh keeps the material tailored strictly to the venue’s clean requirements.
Beyond the voices, he touches on middle age, online dating, and the absurdity of Dancing with the Stars. For the final ten minutes, he sits behind an electric piano, dropping dry one-liners and musical tags with straight-faced rhythm.
