Hogwash

Dave Stone has the unhurried cadence of a rural Georgia storyteller, but the material is built with club-honed economy. The jokes treat Southern oddities, such as gas-station snack choices and regional folklore, as matters of quiet inquiry rather than cheap punchlines.

When Comedy Dynamics released the 43-minute audio record in May 2015, Stone had already built a reputation on the alternative circuit for living out of a vintage camper van to dodge Los Angeles rent. Television spots on Craig Ferguson’s late-night show and Last Comic Standing had broadened his profile, alongside voice work for Adult Swim’s Squidbillies.

Routines like ‘Down by the River’ lean directly into that nomadic existence, alternating between stories of spot-welders back home and unbothered musings on Bigfoot. The Comedy Bureau singled out the debut on its year-end review for pairing Southern charm with progressive sensibility without turning into an apology.
